Welshman Jak Jones has continued his remarkable start to the season by defeating four-time World Champion Mark Selby 10–6 in the final of the Unibet British Open.

The victory sees Jones lift the Clive Everton Trophy and collect the £100,000 top prize, while securing his second ranking title of the season.

Jones had already announced himself as a ranking event winner earlier this year when he claimed the Championship League title in July. Just two months later, the 33-year-old has added another prestigious trophy to his collection with a superb run in Cheltenham.

Jones Holds His Nerve in a Thrilling Final

Following his impressive semi-final victory over Judd Trump, Jones faced another huge challenge in the final against Mark Selby.

The first session ended level at 4–4 before Jones edged ahead in the opening frame of the evening session. Selby responded immediately with a century to make it 5–5, but from there Jones began to take control.

A break of 65 put Jones ahead once again, before a missed red from Selby in the following frame gave the Welshman the opportunity to establish a two-frame advantage for the first time.

Selby briefly reduced the deficit, but Jones responded with a 53 break to move 8–6 ahead before extending his lead to 9–6 with a further break of 62.

The 16th frame would prove to be the last.

Jones looked set to finish the match in style after making six reds with blacks, but a difficult red to the centre pocket stayed out. Selby battled back and took the frame to the colours, but when his difficult final green failed to drop, Jones stepped in to clear the remaining colours and complete a 10–6 victory.

Another Major Milestone for Jones

The result marks another significant milestone in what has been a rapidly developing career.

Jones first made his mark as a junior, winning the European Under-19 Championship in 2010, before gradually establishing himself on the professional circuit.

His biggest breakthrough came at the 2024 World Championship, where he reached the final at the Crucible before eventually losing to Kyren Wilson.

Since then, Jones has continued to build experience and confidence against the very best players in the sport.

His Championship League success in July gave him his first ranking title, and the British Open victory now makes him just the 46th player in snooker history to win multiple ranking events.

The win also sees Jones rise from 31st to 22nd in the world rankings, while he moves up to third on the one-year ranking list.

A Season to Remember

What makes Jones’ achievement even more impressive is the circumstances surrounding his week.

Away from the table, his wife Inna is due to give birth to their second son in the coming days. Despite the excitement and anticipation away from the baize, Jones remained focused throughout the tournament and produced some of the best snooker of his career.

Speaking after his victory, Jones described it as the best day of his career, highlighting just how significant the achievement is.

After 15 years of working his way through professional snooker, the Welshman is now reaping the rewards of his persistence.

With the Championship League title secured in July and the British Open following in September, Jones has already enjoyed a remarkable 2026/27 campaign.

And with the season still in its early stages, there could be plenty more to come from the Welshman.
